

Brazilian tax reform: Working Group releases preliminary text for congressional review

In the wake of a symbolic meeting between House of Representatives Speaker Arthur Lira (Progressistas/Alagoas) and the governors of Brazil’s 26 states held on June 22, 2023, the rapporteur of a bill concerning Brazil’s long-awaited tax reform – Aguinaldo Ribeiro (Progressistas/Paraíba) – released a preliminary version of the text that the House will review in a plenary session during the first week of July.
Ribeiro emphasized that the preliminary text has been published to allow for potential improvements to how it is worded. Given that political negotiations are still ongoing in Congress, there is a chance the document will be subject to further changes before it is voted on in the House of Representatives.
