Larissa Arruy returns to Mattos Filho’s Banking & Financial Services practice
After working as a fintech executive, Arruy brings her comprehensive industry knowledge and perspectives to further strengthen the practice’s strategic legal assistance
Mattos Filho has announced that Larissa Arruy has rejoined the firm’s Banking & Financial Services practice. After two years as an executive at a fintech, Arruy returns to the firm to reunite with a team responsible for serving various leading players in the financial and payments industry. With her return to the firm’s partnership, Mattos Filho now has a partner count of 139.
“I am thrilled to be returning to the firm where I previously worked for nearly seven years. I think of Mattos Filho as my home. My experience as a partner and as a fintech executive has given me a deeper understanding of client perspectives and the importance of a holistic approach – one that goes beyond legal knowledge and understands each client’s business, strategy, and market opportunities and challenges. I believe my deeper and broader knowledge of the industry will assist in providing our clients with better, more innovative solutions that are tailored to their specific needs,” Arruy commented.
With a multidisciplinary approach and market-recognized technical expertise, the Banking & Financial Services practice focuses on matters related to the financial and payments industry, providing advisory and transactional services. The area’s partners and associates possess in-depth knowledge of industry regulations and practices, and maintain close relationships with regulators and industry associations. The practice is also made up of ten lawyers, two of whom are partners Marina Procknor and Paulo Brancher.
Brazil’s banking sector has seen significant progress in competition and innovation in recent years, with the Brazilian Central Bank stimulating the entry of new players into the market and the development of new business models. However, it currently faces important issues stemming from a challenging macroeconomic scenario, fierce competition, and significant changes brought on by new technology, which laws and regulations often struggle to keep up with. This scenario, therefore, requires specialized legal assistance.
“This segment requires very specific knowledge. It’s not just about understanding the regulations. It’s necessary to know the context they were created in, the regulator’s views, the precedents that have been tested, and how all these aspects may apply to each client’s business model. This holistic approach to the industry is necessary for proposing comprehensive legal solutions. In this context, Mattos Filho’s multidisciplinary approach is an important factor – it allows us to leverage our synergy with other areas of the firm, such as Tax, Litigation & Arbitration, M&A, Technology, and Antitrust for the benefit of the client,” added Larissa.
Larissa’s return to Mattos Filho comes at an important moment for the firm’s Banking & Financial Services practice. “We are seeking to strengthen our strategic focus on the banking sector, a sector that is crucial to Brazil’s economy. In addition to being a widely renowned and respected professional within the market, Larissa knows our clients and is fully aligned with Mattos Filho’s culture, having already been part of the partnership for many years. We are delighted to have her back with us,” explained Roberto Quiroga, Mattos Filho’s managing partner.
