Machado Meyer Advogados has helped two Patria-managed funds acquire full ownership of Brazilian thermoelectric power plant operator Marlim Azul Energia.

The proportion of Black professionals at Brazil’s largest law firms has increased over the past eight years. From a virtually nonexistent share in 2018, it rose to 11.3% in 2021 and reached 13.4% in 2025, according to data from the latest census by the Legal Alliance for Racial Equity, to be released today.

Mayer Brown LLP in Houston and its affiliated Brazilian firm Tauil & Chequer Advogados have helped Colombian state-owned oil company Ecopetrol acquire a stake in Brazil’s Brava Energia.

To fund these transactions, it is obtaining a bridge loan. Mattos Filho is advising the lenders in that deal.
