Having pioneered annual disclosures of results among Brazilian law firms, Mattos Filho now introduces Pulso, its new integrated report. This year’s major new development sees the firm’s annual and social reports combined to consolidate information across the three ESG fronts. Pulso contains a range of multimedia content on the firm’s efforts and actions regarding governance, people management, global and Brazilian business scenarios, innovation, sustainability, diversity, and more.
Designed with interactivity in mind, the report seeks to create connections with clients and underscore the firm’s commitment to transparency, revealing the firm’s financial outcomes and key initiatives in 2023. Mattos Filho remains the only full-service Brazilian firm that discloses its gross revenue on an annual basis, as well as the only Brazilian firm listed among the top 200 firms for revenue on The American Lawyer’s Global 200 rankings.
“Anticipating market trends and driving innovation throughout the firm is a core part of Mattos Filho’s culture. We strive to propel our clients toward leading positions in the market by transforming legal challenges into business opportunities,” stated Pedro Whitaker de Souza Dias, Mattos Filho’s managing partner. “This ethos is also mirrored in our communication. We’ve sought to create a report for our clients and for the public that emphasizes the power of connectivity and collective action. These are among the most prized skills both within our firm and law in general.”
Exclusive analysis and institutional actions
The report highlights the firm’s collaborative culture and its institutionalized governance model, featuring special content about the recent management transition at Mattos Filho. In April, Pedro Dias assumed the role of managing partner from Roberto Quiroga. In a candid video conversation, the two partners share insights about what this new chapter represents for Mattos Filho.
Furthermore, Pulso contains a series of text and video reports on key business developments in 2023 that are expected to remain relevant in 2024, including energy transition, tax reforms, cryptoasset legislation, a surge in restructuring and judicial reorganization requests, emblematic court cases and arbitration, among others. Our expert partners provide exclusive insights and analysis to keep clients on top of current legal challenges across various economic sectors in Brazil.
The report outlines the firm’s commitments and actions towards sustainable development, as well as the initiatives undertaken by the firm’s social ecosystem. This ecosystem comprises Mattos Filho’s 100% Pro Bono practice, the Corporate Citizenship area, and Instituto Mattos Filho.
On the pulse of new times: the power of the collective
Mattos Filho’s communications team led the concept for the new integrated report in collaboration with the consultancy Interbrand. Pulso – Portuguese for ‘pulse’ – signifies shock, movement and impulse, also denoting vigor, strength, and character in a figurative sense. These interpretations also symbolize the heart, as the firm’s results and accomplishments stem from a living organism – the collective body of all professionals who work at Mattos Filho.
The innovative format is another standout feature. It’s based on an interactive, non-linear and cyclical reading approach that offers readers autonomy in how they consume the information. Readers have the freedom to choose their starting point and their preferred reading sequence based on the topics that are most relevant to them.
“Pulso not only embraces a new format but heralds a new era for Mattos Filho, fortifying its legacy, management, and its integrated vision for both business and society,” explained Interbrand’s Latam strategy manager, Cris Scaff. “Integration is central to all of the content, inviting readers to explore topics interactively, deviating from the traditional one-directional approach to such publications. This new approach is mirrored in the collaborative ethos that guides the firm’s actions. It sets the tone for this brand, one that pulses in sync with the rhythm of the times.”
Published online and designed with a mobile-first concept to enhance navigation on smartphones, Pulso acknowledges that consuming information via mobile is an everyday reality of modern life.
“Beyond embodying the ‘pulse’ concept, from the outset, the design of the new report offers a fully digital experience with a minimalist aesthetic. It brings the content sharply into focus using visual elements that represent Mattos Filho’s brand,” elaborated Gil Bottari, creative director at Interbrand.
