The firm announced two new partners, Antonio Augusto Rebello Reis and Rômulo Silveira da Rocha Sampaio, to join the Environmental area, collaborating with the other practice areas of the firm. The Environmental practice now has three partners and 20 lawyers dedicated to environmental legal issues and the sustainable business market, among other specificities of the area.
Now, the firm reaches a total of 108 partners. Managing partner, Roberto Quiroga, highlights that the growth of the practice reflects Mattos Filho’s expansion strategy and long-term vision within the legal market. “The firm has a vision of continuous growth, to give an opportunity to new generations and to expand the environmental area more expressively”, states Quiroga.
Antonio Augusto Rebello Reis has experience in legal consulting and environmental litigation. He advises in M&A transactions, audits, project structuring, environmental licensing processes, consultations, and opinions in general. He is also specialized in judicial and administrative litigation and the consensual resolution of conflicts, including the negotiation of terms of adjustment of conduct (TAC) in several sectors. Reis is a member of the Environment, Health and Safety Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA).
Also with extensive expertise in environmental litigation, Rômulo Silveira da Rocha Sampaio has experience in consensual negotiations of conflicts and issues such as sustainability, environmental governance, climate change, and water law. Sampaio represents clients before state and federal courts and higher courts, including in cases of national relevance before the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF). He is also a member of the Environmental Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio de Janeiro (OAB-RJ).
Both will be assigned to Mattos Filho’s office in Rio de Janeiro, serving national and international clients in matters related to Brazilian law. With this, the office in Rio de Janeiro now has 16 partners in different areas.
Strategic growth and an outlook for the future
This year alone, the firm expanded the society in two other moments. In January, with the appointment of partner Paula Indalecio Moreira, who reinforced the practice area of white collar crime, and in June, when it announced the promotion of six lawyers to partners, among them five women. Managing partner, Roberto Quiroga, emphasizes the maturity of the firm, which is oriented towards opportunities. “We have a well-formed performance in all fronts and we intend to grow looking at the market possibilities”.
Still following its strategy of continuous growth, Mattos Filho launched, in July, a new office in Campinas, São Paulo. Partners João Marcos Colussi and Vilma Kutomi are responsible for the office, which counts with other five senior lawyers, serving clients from all the metropolitan regions of São Paulo – outside the capital. With an integrated service of more than 30 areas of law, Mattos Filho has offices in São Paulo, Campinas, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, New York, and London.
