Experience

Paula is the partner in charge of our New York office and a member of our Corporate/M&A practice area. Her practice focuses on Brazilian and cross-border M&A transactions, inbound investments and commercial contracts involving public and private companies across virtually all industries and business sectors. Paula also advises management bodies and shareholders on corporate regulatory matters. As a member of the firm’s International Committee, she plays a key role in overseeing Mattos Filho’s business development initiatives outside Brazil. Paula is also a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and is active in forums and specific committees regarding M&A and Latin American business. Paula previously worked as an international associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP’s New York office.

“Cleaning up” governance adds value, stress M&A experts in Brazil

Strengthening corporate governance is vital for companies looking to increase their profitability and attractiveness to investors amidst subdued activity in Latin America’s M&A market, indicated panellists at Latin Lawyer Live: Mergers & Acquisitions in São Paulo last week.
While concerns regarding sound governance and its correlation with profitable dealmaking is not a new phenomenon in Latin America, experts at the conference highlighted that with M&A activity having experienced a 40% dip across the region in 2023 compared to the previous year, companies must work harder to attract investment in light of less favourable market conditions.
